Significant Problem Trying To Install Flex 2.01 Update

UPDATE: JOY, successfully installed the Flex 2.01 update on my home computer. I downloaded the update for Windows here: http://www.adobe.com/support/flex/downloads_updaters.html. The update ran fine and did not have me restart the computer. When I launch Flex Builder, 2.01 shows up as the version on the splash screen. I'll try my work computer again on Monday.

NO JOY in installing the Flex 2.01 update.

I TRIED installing the Flex 2.01 update. My configuration is Windows XP SP2 and I was running Flex Builder 2.0 (Educational Version). I downloaded the Windows update from here: http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flex/2/install.html (144 MB download).

After the download completed, I ran the downloaded file (named flexbuilder2_201updater.exe) and went through the process of installing FlexBuilder 2.01. The installer needed to restart my computer before completing the process. After my computer restarted, I expected to see the installer tell me it was finished. But I never got any more messages from the installer.

So, after waiting a few minutes, I ran Flex Builder. Still said 2.0 on the splash screen. I went to Help - Product Details and then clicked on Feature Details and saw that my Flex Builder 2 Core is 2.0.143459 and so is my Flex Builder 2 Standalone.

However, when I try to open one of my Flex projects I get an error message!!! The MXML editor is not available!!!

So I closed Flex Builder and ran the download again. Only now I get the message that an existing Flex Builder installation was not found and the installer will not run!!!

I'm now going to try reinstalling the original software!!! I knew I should NOT have tried to do this on a Friday afternoon.

I uninstalled Flex 2. Reinstalled it using the original CD I purchased. Reinstalled CFEclipse and imported my Flex projects. Now after wasting a couple of hours I'm back to where I was BEFORE trying to update to 2.0.1.

I AM NOT going to update until I read that others have updated Flex Builder 2.0 to 2.0.1 on Windows XP successfully.

In the release notes it said that when before start FB for the first time after updating you need run a command in the windows command line to tell FB to clean it's configuration. Running this command also starts FB for you.

Kurt:

I'm assuming you're refering to the last step below, which I did. Have you upgraded successfully on Windows XP?

To upgrade Flex Builder 2 stand-alone to the 2.0.1 update on Windows:
Read the Flex Builder 2 Release Notes for any late-breaking information, updates, and known issues.
Download Flex Builder 2.0.1 update Installer for Windows from the Adobe Flex Support Center.
Open or double-click the installer executable file.
Accept the license agreement and follow the prompts.
If the installer detects multiple installations of Flex Builder 2, it prompts you for the location to be updated.
Select which Flash Player 9 browser plug-in to install:

Internet Explorer
Netscape or Firefox
Note: Flex Builder 2.0.1 and Flex SDK 2.0.1 can run with the base version of Flash Player 9 (Version: 9,0,16,0 dated 6/27/07). However, it's best to install the Flash Player 9 Update.

(Optional) When the installation finishes, restart your computer to ensure that the updated Flash Player browser plug-in is enabled.
Start Flex Builder.

Windows Vista users - The first time you run Flex Builder 2, you must "Run as Admin", after which you can run it normally. To run as Admin, right click the Flex Builder 2 launch icon in the Start Menu, and select "Run as Admin".

Opening existing projects - The first time you open an existing Flex Builder project, you should refresh the workspace by using the -clean option. To do this, open a command window, navigate to the Flex Builder directory, and type FlexBuilder -clean -vmargs -Xmx512m.
